Mountain View Christian Center was started in 1910 by a group of Swedish immigrants who wanted a place to worship in the Swedish language. They purchased the one room community schoolhouse and moved it to the community of Pioneer locating it on the corner of what is now 29th Avenue and 259th Street.
The church did not have a resident pastor for the first 18 years and continued to be a Swedish speaking church until 1926. In the years following various itinerate ministers pastored the congregation and saw it begin to grow numerically as well as in its outreach to the surrounding community. In 1976 the church built a beautiful new church building set back from the corner on the same piece of property which comfortably seats 525. The church also removed the old original white church building it had been meeting in and changed the name of the church to Mountain View Christian Center.
A school was started in September of 1980 and a new educational wing along with a gym and classrooms was built and dedicated in the spring of 1983. The church and school are continuing to thrive as they reac out to a rapidly growing community.
We are currently situated on 15 acres out in the country West of the Ridgfield Junction, between I-5 and Daybreak Park. We have a scenic view of Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams, and Mt. Hood. There is also plenty of room for future growth and expansion.
The Church finished a two-year intensive strategic planning process that was designed to assist in clarifying our ministry vision and to help prioritize the focus of our community outreach. We are now in the delightful phase of implementing these plans and finding new and additional ways that we can help connect people to Jesus.
Family ministry is a priority at Mountain View. With a growing community of young families and a strong Christian School ministry the church is focused on reaching out to these families with life-impacting ministries. We desire to be a place in the community where families can connect with one another, be strengthened by the mutual encouragement they can offer to one another, and be provided an opportunity to discover the powerful difference a family centered on Jesus Christ can make.
We look forward to the opportunity of meeting you in the future and answering any further questions you might have about our church. We know it is a challenging process to find a home church that you can trust and feel comfortable in, while also feeling like it meets the needs of your family. We would be honored if you would permit us that opportunity of serving you and your family! Please feel a warm invitation to come and worship with us.
